Welcome to ICT

The Campus enjoys a high-speed, secure and robust network. This provides the staff and pupils with access to the wealth of resources available both online and within the Campus network itself. When connected by cable users can access the network at speeds of up to 100Mbps. These high-speeds provide users with the ability to perform very demanding tasks such as video editing and computer aided design in real-time.

In addition to "cabled" access users are able to connect using the latest networking technology. WiFi (also known as 802.11b/g) allows users with a properly equipped laptop or PDA to access the network from almost anywhere within the Campus grounds. This ubiquitous access brings a whole new dimension to the concept of a school network. No longer are computers restricted by the availability of a wall socket. Pupils and staff can work with complete freedom, be it in a classroom or even outside, pupils and staff can work just the same. The wireless network operates at speeds up to 54Mbps and comprises of access points installed throughout the Campus positioned to create a seamless grid.

Internet access is available with the Campus' broadband connection operating at a speed of 6Mbps. The provision of such a high speed connection allows users to take advantage of high bandwidth streaming video as well as other bandwidth intensive applications. Access to the internet is controlled at two points. Onsite there is software in operation that will block access to any inappropriate sites using a keyword filter, this software also provides the network support staff with the ability to monitor any and all access to the internet. Offsite the web requests are filtered by e2b SafetyNet; who employ a team of operatives dedicated to the task of scouring the internet blocking websites on a site by site basis. This dual layer approach to access filtering ensures that pupils are protected to a very high standard.
